Floyd Steinberg demonstrates how a shimmer-like reverb can be setup on the QY70 (this technique also applies to the Yamaha QY100).

A shimmer reverb is one that reverberates at a different pitch than the notes being played. On the QY sequencers, this can be accomplished by duplicating the track, transposing the duplicated track, then turning up it’s reverb, and turning the dry signal completely off. This allows the pitched reverb to be heard, layered on top of the original notes.

And don’t brush this technique off assuming that it only applies to reverb. You can pair this duplication/transposition workflow with any of the QY sequencer’s effects. You can use it to create:

  • Pitched-Delay
  • Pitched-Echo
  • Pitched-Chorus
  • Pitched-Flanger
  • Pitched-Phaser
  • Pitched-Tremelo
  • Pitched-Auto Pan
  • Pitched-Distortion
  • Pitched-Overdrive
  • Pitched-Amp Simulation
  • Pitched-Auto Wah

…and more!
