Yukes玉刻 Music explores how the Yamaha QY70 can be integrated into a modern MIDI production workflow using an external sequencer such as the Novation Launchpad Pro MK3. Although released in 1997, the QY70 remains a capable 16-track MIDI workstation with over 500 built-in XG voices, editable effects, and voice parameters that can still produce compelling results.

The demonstration covers connecting the QY70 to external MIDI controllers or a DAW, browsing its extensive sound library, editing voices with filters and ADR envelopes, applying onboard effects such as reverb, chorus, delay, and modulation, and sequencing complete arrangements using multiple MIDI channels. Examples showcase how careful sound selection, effects processing, and external sequencing can transform the QY70’s classic General MIDI and XG sound into modern lo-fi, ambient, and electronic music.

Many of the techniques demonstrated also apply directly to the Yamaha QY100, which shares much of the QY70’s sound engine while adding various additional features.
